The Electoral College Scam

Nearly 233 years ago, in September of 1787, delegates from the 13 colonies gathered in Philadelphia and held a convention called “The Constitutional Convention” to determine how a president should be elected. They created The Electoral College to protect the interest of democracy and businessmen throughout the country. If the people were given the power to elect a president, they would also have the power to remove him from office, which poses a threat to the control of democracy. This Constitutional Convention determined the seats for each state number of seats in the House of Representatives and it became a difficult decision to make because slave owners wanted to include their slaves in being a part of the process, giving them more seats in The House of Representatives. James Wilson and Robert Sherman proposed The Three-Fifths Compromise, stating that it would consider slaves, but they would only be counted as three-fifths of a human being. The rich thought that people were not smart enough to participate in the voting of a president, so they had to find a way to control the vote and let the people think that they were a part of the voting process.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, says she wants to abolish the Electoral College, giving the people the power to decide who they want for president. To make this happen, it would require the votes of two-thirds of the House of Representatives, two-thirds of the Senate, and three-fourths of the State. When she brought this idea of abolishing the electoral college to the nation, she was ridiculed by many politicians and American citizens. In the 2016 presidential race, Hillary won the popular vote and Trump won the electoral vote, making him the new president. Although it’s known who has the last say in the presidential election, people still think that they are the ones who elect the president. This is how our government has gotten over with the voting system since 1787. This years’ election between Biden and Trump has been decided by the electoral vote, just like all the others, but President Trump has claimed that the election was rigged and there was voter fraud. He has attempted to overturn the electoral vote and influenced his supports to storm the capitol to delay the electoral decision, but in 2016, he had no problem with the decision of the electoral college.
