The Injustice and Lies of Government

For ages we have been lied to and used for personal gain, in our quest for equality and justice. Wanting to be accepted in white society has taken the mind of blacks off their true heritage and culture. The Three Fifths Compromise, The Constitution, and the 13th and 14th amendment has always kept black people under the rule of slavery. In 1787, The Constitutional Convention was held in Philadelphia by 12 delegates of the thirteen states to come to an agreement of how slaves will be used in elections. If slaves were involved, it would’ve given southern slave owners an advantage over the north. So, they decided to label slaves as three fifths of a human being instead of giving them full freedom as whites.

The 13th Amendment was a document that was supposed to abolish slavery, but that wasn’t the case because mass incarceration served a form of institutionalized form of slavery. It states the slavery shall be abolished except in cases where a person is convicted of a crime. This is one of the reasons there are so many African Americans are incarcerated and wrongly convicted. Many companies profit off the free labor of inmates.

The 14th Amendment states that all people born in the United States are citizens and that no state shall deprive anyone life, liberty and property without due process; nor deny them the equal protection of the laws. In 1896, the Supreme court proved it to be false in a court decision that upheld the constitutionality of racial segregation under the separate but equal doctrine in Plessy v. Ferguson. Plessy said his rights were violated because he refused to sit in a train car made for blacks. The Supreme Court ruled that a law implies legal distinction between whites and blacks was not unconstitutional. This was backed by the Jim Crow Laws.
